Michael’s word for this Sunday is “interesting”.
He saw “interesting” people as we drove
through the city of Lusaka with Zambia Cure director Tim and his wife Melissa
going to St. Columba’s Presbyterian Church.
We tasted “interesting” tea and biscuits in the after church guest
fellowship time. We heard “interesting”
music and we especially enjoyed the four young ladies who sang beautiful
scripture songs during the service. We
could smell “interesting” smoke from fires as people burn wood to keep warm (it
is breezy and cool, what I consider lovely weather). We felt "interesting" peoples hands from many parts of the
world as we passed the peace with those sitting around us at church.
We enjoyed visiting with Tim and Melissa at lunch and they
kindly took us to the modern Pick and Pay Grocery located in a mall to gather
some supplies for the week. After
loading up on eggs, oranges, bread, and milk we returned to the guest
house. I took a desperately needed nap,
I think Maureen took one as well. But
Michael decided to go exploring see who he could meet.
Cure Zambia has a beautiful parcel of land that is
surrounded by an electric fence with one guarded entrance. Michael met the guards and took pictures
throughout the campus. So using
Michael’s word interesting again - he saw “interesting” people – the guards,
some of the children staying at the hospital and their mothers. He heard “interesting” languages – while the
major language is English, it doesn’t always sound the same and some of the
mothers speak other languages – a smile is universal!
He tasted some chocolate chip cookies made by Lars, a
volunteer from Germany also staying at the guest house. He felt the fur of two "uninteresting" cats that Lars named
James and Joyce, but that we have renamed Dusty and Scallywag. He also felt the mosquito netting as he place
it over his bed tonight. And I am sure
that he smelled the smokey fires again as he fell asleep. . . .
I will post pictures ASAP, but I want to send this while the internet is working.
